Do you agree or disagree: The most important characteristic for a
politician or leader is good communication ability.
Do you agree or disagree: Talented people’s leadership is born by natural
and can’t be learned by people.
Do you agree or disagree: The quality that an effective leader must have is
that they need to make decisions quickly. When leaders take too much time to
make decisions they will be seen as ineffective by the people they lead.
Agree or disagree: The effective leader tries to make others feel they have
been part of a decision.
Agree or disagree: A leader should admit if they made a bad decision.
Agree or disagree: It is the most important character of a policies or
business leader to accept the responsibility of mistake.
Leadership is “one of the most observed and least understood phenomena on
earth”, wrote one man in a position to know. There is a visceral fascination
with leaders and their character, and with the great issue that surrounds them:
can they be made or are they only ever born?
There is no general agreement about the qualities of a leader :
Field Marshal Montgomery thought that a leader “must have infectious
optimism, and the determination to persevere in the face of difficulties. He
must also radiate confidence, even when he himself is not too certain of the
outcome”.
David Ogilvy, founder of an advertising agency, and himself a leader of
some quality, said: Great leaders almost always exude self-confidence. They are
never petty. They are never buck-passers. They pick themselves up after defeat …
The great leaders I have known have been curiously complicated men.
Whatever the fields of working, one thing is certain: excellent
communication skill solely can hardly be the exclusive criterion to evaluate
one’s performance in leadership. Without infectious optimism and the
determination to persevere in the face of difficulties, one may fail to steer
his team out of troubles. Without radiating confidence in front of uncertainties
and challenges, one may only end up witnessing a destabilizing effect on a
workforce and projected efficiencies undelivered.
The leadership of people like Alfred P. Sloan, the legendary boss of
General Motors, however, owed more to the structure and systems that they put in
place in their organizations than it did on the individual's personality.
Henry Ford II 's success in revitalizing his family's firm after the Second
World War depended largely on his reorganization of the company. The man himself
was a jet-setting playboy who rarely met the David Ogilvy standards of a great
leader.
So anyway, a talented people’ leadership is not so much a quality born by
nature as a skill acquired by training. Because leaders and managers are
basically different, the conditions favorable to one may be inimical to the
growth of the other.
